Information on Eye Health

There are two types of blindness: by birth or acquired. The most important cause for blindness by birth is marriages of close relatives.

Blindness acquired: Glaucoma (intraocular pressure), Diabetes Mellitus (diabetes), Behcet’s disease, “Methanol – Methyl alcohol” that is used in counterfeit alcoholic beverages and causes sudden blindness, various accidents.

However, early diagnosis prevents a number of adverse consequences that cause blindness. The development of eyesight continues until the age of six from birth. To be able to protect the eye health, eye examination should be made in the first three years of life.

The child that has no complaints should have at least one eye examination until the age of 3 or 4.

If the child watches the TV at a very close distance, keeps his/her head very close to the sheet when he/she makes drawings and painting, the eye examination should be carried out immediately. If the child has diplopia the eye doctor should be seen immediately without losing any time regardless of the age of the child.
