7 Danger Signals for the Eye

1. Permanent redness: The redness may signify a serious or insignificant eye problem. How can you tell which one? In a serious disease, there are usually other symptoms as well. However, if there are no other symptoms but the abnormal redness still continues, you should still see an eye doctor.

2. Constant pain, irritation in the eye or around: A healthy eye does not cause pain. Sometimes, there may be temporary pains in various parts of a healthy body. It is the case for the eye as well, but constant pain is not normal. Particularly if the eye is red or there are other danger signals as well.

3. Visual disorders: The function of the eye is seeing and one of the most important danger signals is problems in vision. The visual disorders can take place in a number of ways. For example, the objects near or far may become blurred. Such blurring usually refers to a need for eyeglasses. They are not serious and do not cause blindness. However, the blurring may be related to diabetes, high blood pressure, poisoning or other serious problems.

Peripheral sight loss is a bad signal related to a significant problem in the eye or the brain. As you know, normally you see not only the direction you look at, but both sides. This area where you can see at once is called the sight area. If you can only see one side of this area, the reason is usually a disease in retina, optic nerves or the brain.

4. Diplopia: The condition of one eye directed at one object and the other eye directed elsewhere in childhood or puberty directs to a problem in the communication between the brain and the eye. This condition may become worse as the eye cannot see healthily and cannot communicate which side it is directed to the brain. Or the brain control systems may have become deformed.

5. Enlarging bulks: The bulks and panicula on the eye or the eyelids can develop in relation to inflammation, cancer, or other abnormal conditions that affect the sight. Many moles emerge on the eyelids without ant harm. However, the thing that is mentioned here is not small problems, but the abnormal bulks that become bigger gradually. If there is constant bleeding, this bulk may be thought to be malignant. Cancers do not necessarily cause pain.

6. Constant Incrustation and Secretion: The surface-related inflammations of the eye cause irritation and inflammatory flix from the eye or the margins of eyelids. This flix becomes dry in the eyelashes or the margins. The surface of the eye is resistant to infection. However, when the thin surface cell layer is deformed, when putting on the contact lenses or during harsh rubbing of the eye, surface related bacteria can enter the sensitive deep tissues and proliferate. Therefore an infected eye can be damaged from even minor scratches that do not cause any damage to the healthy eye. In such infections, the eyes should be cleaned with the use of appropriate antibiotics.

7. Pupilla Changes: Normally, the pupillas (the black part at the center of the iris) are round and have equal size in both eyes. The size of the pupilla arranges the amount of light that go in the eye and is controlled by the brain. One of the most important parts of the examination is pupilla examination. For this is the simplest form of observing the condition of normal or defected nerve connections with the brain. The serious diseases of the eye also lead to pupilla changes. Therefore an irregular pupilla or the difference in their size among the two eyes is an important danger signal.
